Your Grand Dad John Tomas Elliott(II)*. Who's father was also named* John Tomas Elliott(I)*. Father John Tomas Elliott(I)* was in the Civil War. He came back with no ingerys, but one morning he and John Tomas, his son, and his brother were up on the house putting shingles on and 2 strange men walked up from the pasture. Called your Great Grand Dad down. They talked real low. Then Grandpa looked up at your Dad, and Uncle Will said, "I will be back soon", but late that evening he hadn't come back. So Grandma told the boys to go through the woods and look for there dad. So the went the way the men went. About 2 hundred yards from the house they found him hanging from a live oak tree limb. Dead. No one knows why they killed him.
Your dad(s)* mother, Martha Jane Elliott(s), dad and brother were wounded in the Civil War.
My mother(s)* dad was killed, but her brother Tom Mc Cain was shot, but didn't die for 3 days. He druged himself in a thicket so my mother and your dad went to look for him. She tracked him by the blood on the dead leaves on ground. She was just 13. That left her and Grandmother Mc Cain by thereselfs. Your Dad(s)* mother went back to the house (to)* get food (and)* water (and)* took (them)* to Uncle Tom Mc Cain. She took (a)* broom sweeped dirt on bloody leaves so if the(y)* come back the(y)* couldn't find her brother so she went back the 3rd day he had bleed to death. She went back to (the)* house told Grandma Mc Cain. They had a dug well. (They)* had (to)* draw (the)* water with a rope bucket so Grandma Mc Cain told her to (go and)* get (some)* water, but (to)* be careful. She had the bucket (of)* water most to the top. She heard the horses coming 4 men came up first laughed then cut the rope (and the)* bucket went to bottom of well. She started crying. One man leaned from horse tore her dress off then cut her hair that was in long plats. Drove off. They killed all cows (and)* stole the horses (that were)* left so they couldent go into town (to)* get food.
When your Grandma Mc Cain-Elliott was 13 her and (Great)* Grandma Mc Cain came across the Mississippi some place. Came to Texas. I never knew where they came across at, but they came by steamboat.

This is about your dad when he was young. He never did want to talk about it.
Your dad left home when he was 15 (and)* started working for a man with horses. One day the man was drinking. So he told your Dad to get on this horse (and)* ride him. So when he got on the man threw his hat under the horse. It started to running down the road (and)* fell on your Dad leg. He yelled but the man dident go to him. So a man came along got the horse off his leg but it was broke and by the time the got him to the doctor it was to late so they had to take his leg off. I was baby so the man came (and)* told Mama. He brought a horse for her to ride. She got on (the)* horse with me and road 20 miles that night to where your Dad was. The man was drunk that brought the horse. Your Grandmother was so scared when she saw how he was riding. (He)* nearly fell off the horse several times.
One day after I got (to be)* school age she told me all this (and)* said for me to write all this down so I did. (She)* said it might help my kids when they got (to be)* school age.
Hope this is history for you and your kids. It been a help to me. I so glad I listened what she told me. I have wrote all this for my grand kids. Also (my)* Great Grand Kids.
